Note About the Program
Making It is a reflection on my own experiences with mental illness and the convoluted, messy, back-and-forth of surviving. This program is driven by the tense interaction of a troubled, exhausted reality and the desperate, necessary struggle to find beauty, love and meaning in our lives. Both within theirselves and between each other, the selections of this program attempt to reconcile the differences between a life of desire and aspiration, and the simultaneous difficulty that often defines daily life. Fleeting moments of hope are not simply daydreams of having an easier time—but rather a demonstration of the exceptional, defiant force of will required of people struggling with mental illness. While intentionally designed to be a turbulent, violent series of contradictions, this program is unified by a singular, linear objective: to persevere with the hope that our ultimate ideal becomes our immediate reality. To hope we will have made meaningful use of the one life we are given. At the very least: to hope that one day we will be able to see that we did everything we could.
